SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES
Kelly Baltzell, MA
President & CEO, Beyond Indigo
Kelly Baltzellis President and CEO of the Beyond Indigo family of companies, which she founded in 1997. Under her leadership, Beyond Indigo companies have developed all types of veterinary websites (small animal, exotic, specialty, equine, mixed animal) that now reach millions of people a year. Kelly’s passion, depth of experience, and visionary approach to the industry have made her an unparalleled leader in Internet marketing.
A true relationship builder who works to promote her clients and broadcast their stories to the world, Kelly speaks frequently about marketing trends and website design at national conventions and private functions. Prior to creating Beyond Indigo, she served as Site Manager for Online Psych, the mental health community of America Online, and designed customized mental health programming for the AOL Health Channel. Online Psych had up to four million page views per day and attained placement on AOL’s Welcome Screen. After Online Psych merged with iVillage.com, Kelly became Director of Interactive Health and was later promoted to Executive Director of Health. She helped generate more than 18 million page views a month for iVillage.com.
Kelly graduated from George Washington University with a degree in International Affairs & Economics and received her Master’s degree in Counseling & Psychology from St. Mary’s. Kelly is a proud parent, currently living with her family in Minnesota.
Dawn M. Boothe, DVM, MS, Ph.D

Dr. Boothe received her B.S. degrees in Zoology (1977) and Veterinary Medicine (1978); DVM degree (1980); and MS degree in Physiology (1986) all from Texas A&M University. She continued her education with an internship in 1981 at Auburn University's Small Animal Surgery and Medicine, then returned to Texas A&M University, Small Animal Internal Medicine for residency program in 1985. Dr. Boothe completed her Ph.D. degree and fellowship, in 1989 in the field of Physiology (Clinical Pharmacology), at Texas A&M University. Dr. Boothe is a Diplomate ACVIM (Internal Medicine) and Diplomate ACVCP (Clinical Pharmacology). Dr. Booth has received the Distinguished Achievement Award in Teaching (University Level), May 1997 and the Merck AgVet Award for Creativity in Teaching, July 1996, at Texas A&M University. Presently Dr. Booth is assisting in teaching Veterinary Pharmacology to 2nd year veterinary students and is the Director of the Clinical Pharmacology Laboratory at Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine.
Susan Bryant, CVT, VTS

Susan Bryant graduated with a degree in Veterinary Technology from Columbus State Technical Institute in 1986. She spent the next 12 years working in private practice until joining the staff at Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in 1998. Susan works in the anesthesia section, providing services for small and large animals and teaching fourth year veterinary students. She currently serves as the Veterinary Technician Manager for the Foster Hospital for Small Animals at Tufts.
Susan achieved her Veterinary Technician Specialist in Anesthesia (VTS-Anesthesia) certification in 2002. She has served on the Board of Regents and is currently President of the Academy of Veterinary Technician Anesthetists (AVTA). Susan has taught labs at many national conferences (WSVC, CVCs, AVMA, NAVC and IVECCs) and for state and local technician associations. Most recently, she was a chapter author and editor for a 2010 book entitled “Anesthesia for Veterinary Technicians”. Susan is currently at work on the 2nd edition.
Richard E. Goldstein, DVM, DACVIM-CA
Staff Doctor/Chief of Medicine, The Animal Medical Center
Prior to joining The AMC in 2011, Dr. Richard Goldstein was a faculty member at Cornell University, College of Veterinary Medicine. Most recently he served as an Associate Professor of Small Animal Medicine and Chief of the medicine service. He is board certified in Small Animal Internal Medicine by both the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Companion Animals. Prior to joining the faculty at Cornell, Dr. Goldstein spent two years in a private specialty practice in Southern California.
Dr. Goldstein currently serves on the Editorial Review Board for multiple veterinary journals and is the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Endocrinology Society Research Award and the Norden Distinguished Teaching Award. A respected researcher author, lecturer, and teacher, Dr. Goldstein has published more than 60 research papers and textbook chapters to date. He is internationally recognized for his expertise in infectious diseases in dogs and cats, especially those that affect kidneys, such as Lyme Disease and Leptospirosis.
Beth Gresch, KPA, CTP
The Attuned Dog
Beth Gresch is a Karen Pryor Certified Training Partner (KPA CTP), a Certified Pet Trainer (CPDT-KA), and a member of the Association of Pet Trainers (APDT). In-home private training with families and their dogs has been her focus for many years. Additionally, Beth works as a trainer for group classes at the RISPCA and does temperament evaluations for incoming shelter dogs. A graduate of Brown University, Beth is certified in Red Cross Pet First Aid and is fully insured. She avidly pursues continuing education opportunities, professional development, and additional training skills by attending seminars and keeping current on industry literature and protocols.
Joanne Kramer, DVM, DACVD
Assistant Teaching Professor, University of Missouri
Dr. Joanne Kramer is an ACVS board-certified veterinary surgeon whose clinical interests include equine surgery and podiatry. She is currently an associate teaching professional in the Department of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Missouri’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Her teaching goals include clinically oriented teaching and the development of improved methods of teaching through the use of technology and e-learning. Her clinical goals include determining the most effective, least invasive solutions to equine lameness and surgical problems.
Mary A. Labato, DVM, ACVIM
Clinical Professor, Small Animal Medicine

Dr. Mary Anna Labato is a graduate of Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine, where she is currently a Clinical Professor and Section Head of Small Animal Medicine, Department of Clinical Sciences. A former President of the Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association, Dr. Labato also worked in private practice in southeastern and western Massachusetts. Her research areas include acute kidney injury and dialysis, glomerulonephritis and chronic kidney disease. She has been part of the ACVIM consensus statement for Lyme Disease and hypertension. Dr. Labato has recently ventured into the area of interventional endourology and performing procedures such as urethral and ureteral stent placement and laser ablation of urethral strictures and tumors.
Justine Lee, DVM, DACVECC
Dr. Justine Lee is a board-certified emergency critical care veterinary specialist and is the Associate Director of Veterinary Services at Pet Poison Helpline (PPH). She joined PPH in 2008. Previously, she was on faculty at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Lee graduated from Virginia Tech with a BS in Animal Sciences, and then obtained her veterinary degree at Cornell University. She pursued her internship at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital, which is affiliated with the MSPCA. In addition, she has also completed an emergency fellowship and residency at the University of Pennsylvania. Currently, she is one of approximately 500 board certified veterinary specialists world wide in emergency medicine and critical care, and is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (DACVECC).
Dr. Lee has been published in numerous veterinary journals, including the Journal of American Veterinary Medical Association, the Journal of Veterinary Emergency Critical Care, and the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine. She has also published several veterinary book chapters, and has been aired on radio and television to promote preventative medicine, animal health, and the overall well-being of pets. She is the author of two humorous pet reference books (Random House 2008) entitled It’s a Dog’s Life… but It’s Your Carpet and It’s a Cat’s World… You Just Live In It. Dr. Lee also co-edited and co-authored Blackwell’s Five-Minute Veterinary Consult Clinical Companion: Small Animal Toxicology (Wiley-Blackwell 2011). Dr. Lee is a contributing author for Prevention magazine and various other breed newsletters. She lectures throughout the world on emergency and critical care, and was honored to receive the North American Veterinary Conference 2011 “Small Animal Speaker of the Year” Award. She has a rescued cat and a huge array of plants (non-poisonous, of course!).

Liz is a 1992 graduate of the University of Illinois. She did an internship at the University of Minnesota, and then a residency in ECC at the University of Pennsylvania. Since 1996, Liz has worked at Tufts University in the ECC section, and has been involved in teaching, research, and service.
